New 200 square metres of mezzanine floor, with a 6500mm clear width opening safety handrail system

We provided a design for a mezzanine floor to create an assembly area for prototype sections of conservatory’s within our clients Northampton manufacturing division. The mezzanine floor would have an overall length of 20metres and a depth of 10 metres, giving 200 square metres of additional space. The mezzanine floor was built over the existing ground floor plant with the support columns designed on a grid to allow the ground floor operations to continue uninterrupted. The overall height of the mezzanine floor to the
underside was designed at 3800mm with a construction depth of only 350mm with the floor rated at 5Kn / square metre. A low profile mezzanine floor construction was necessary due to the height restrictions of the building.

Plastic extrusions up to 6000mm long would be lifted on to the front face of the mezzanine floor .via a forklift truck. The prototype conservatory sections would be removed when assembled in the same way. We designed a special purpose retractable moving safety handrail system to allow for loading ad offloading.

Moving handrail system – 6500mm clear opening for wider loads The retractable moving handrail system (which runs on a low profile track, screw fixed to the mezzanine decking) is supported in a series of guide- posts (with adjustable wheels) and allows the safety handrail to be opened and closed for a clear width of 6500mm. When close the handrail automatically locks with a spring activated through bolt. The handrail was fabricated in our factory in 1000mm sections (complete with grooved track wheels) and bolted together on site.

The guiderail posts were manufactured as individual units within our factory for easy installation on site. We can manufacture and install the moving safety handrail system in a single opening up to 6500mm or double width opening (bi-parting) up to 13000mm depending on the size of the mezzanine flooring / available space. We are currently discussing a new mezzanine floor extension to complete our client’s expansion programme.
